SUMMARY:Platty+ 2021
DESCRIPTION:Headway North Cumbria is encouraged by the gradual opening of society following the COVID-19 lockdown however it believes that it is right to maintain an abundance of caution when it comes to supporting vulnerable adults who may have underlying health conditions.  As a consequence it has been decided to postpone our trip to Platty+ until 2022. \n  \nPlatty+ is a small friendly family run water sports centre based on the shores of Derwentwater experienced in dealing with individuals and groups\, children and adults (including those with special needs)\, families with young children\, corporate groups and school parties. \nOn Saturday 10 July 2021 Headway North Cumbria will participate in water sports in the Lake District.  Attendees will be offered a two hour programme in which they will be given the opportunity to go on the water in a canoe\, kayak\, or dragon boat. \n \nDetails\, including costings\, will be published in due course. \nThis is an annual event.  We had planned to run this event in July 2020 but had to postpone due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  To view some photos from our last visit in 2019 please visit the gallery and the photo album called Platty 2019. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Headway North Cumbria runs a quiz over ZOOM every other Monday commencing at 16:00 and running for about an hour.  The quiz is hosted by our Treasurer\, Julian Simpson. \nThe quiz will comprise 20 general knowledge questions\, each of which will have four possible answers to choose from.  One point for each correct answer.  Maximum score = 20 \n  \nThis week’s quiz will follow a format borrowed from the TV quiz shows “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” and “Impossible”.  The quiz will run in two parts: \n \nPart 1 – This will essentially be 2/3rds of a “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” quiz.  There will be 10 millionaire style questions in increasing levels of difficulty from 100 points to 32\,000 points.  Just answer the question as you would for a normal quiz whilst trying to complete series of correct answers millionaire style. \n \nPart 2 – 10 questions in the style of the quiz show “Impossible”. For those unfamiliar with “Impossible” the answers are of three different type; correct wrong and impossible. SUMMARY:Hats for Headway

SUMMARY:ABI Week 2021: A Life of Lockdown?
DESCRIPTION:Covid-19 has been tough on everyone. Repeated lockdowns have left people isolated and lonely\, often harming their mental wellbeing. \nBut imagine living every day of your life in isolation… \nThe effects of brain injury\, such as problems with memory\, information processing\, or speech\, compounded by a lack of understanding of this often hidden disability\, can leave survivors lacking the confidence to interact with society. \nThe theme of this year’s Action for Brain Injury Week is A life of lockdown?  and will focus on social isolation after brain injury\, a problem that has been exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.   The campaign will aim to give a voice to survivors and carers to help them better explain to their friends and families the challenges they face as a result of brain injury.  As well as having an awareness-raising focus\, it will also have positive messages and tools to help people make a difference\, such as guides and top tips for friends of brain injury survivors and carers. \nAction for Brain Injury Week will run from 17-23 May 2021. \nFurther details will be released on the Headway UK website and social media in due course. \nHeadway North Cumbria will discuss A life of lockdown? during its Zoom meeting on Monday 24 May 2021.
