On Monday 8 September we were delighted to welcome three representatives from Omexom Taylor Woodrow (OTW) to our Day Centre. OTW is the National Grid’s Enterprise Delivery Partner for the upgrade of the Harker Substation Project to the North of Carlisle.
Headway North Cumbria first became involved with OTW when one of our members, Anna Selim, responded to a request for a local artist to provide original artwork for the Wellness Suite at the site. This resulted in a kind donation from OTW to the Headway North Cumbria which was covered in a news article at the time.
Artwork Leads to Donation to Headway North Cumbria
We were surprised, but absolutely delighted, when we were contacted a few weeks ago by OTW who told us that they wished to support us with a further donation of £2,210 to the branch. As a result of this very generous contribution we considered it appropriate that as many of our members as possible should have the opportunity to say thank you, whilst giving our friends at OTW a feel for the services that we provide for our members. It was, therefore, an absolute pleasure to welcome Colin Livingstone, Alan Hartfield and Isabella Ashburner to the Day Centre.
Chair, Julian Simpson, welcomed our visitors to Headway North Cumbria, and this was followed by a cheque presentation ceremony. The cheque was received on behalf of the branch by Anna and our newest member, Greg.
Following the formalities Colin, Alan and Isabella were able to stay with us for the remainder of the session. They were able to chat with many of our members, enjoy delicious homemade cakes, try the pizza swirls that were prepared by the cooking group, risk getting covered in glue and glitter at the craft table, and face the cut and thrust (and banter) of the domino table.
We were also able to celebrate the 70th birthday, of founding member and Day Centre Manger, Jean Wight. Happy birthday Jean!
It was a great Day Centre session which was enjoyed by all. Thank you to Colin, Alan and Isabella and the rest of the team at OTW for your very kind donation. It is thanks to such generosity that Headway North Cumbria is able to continue to provide a service to those living with an acquired brain injury. You are welcome to visit at any time.
A series of photographs from the day can be found in the gallery in the Photo Album called Visit by Omexom Taylor Woodrow (OTW) – 8 September 2025 which can also be viewed in the slideshow below.
