During 2020 Headway North Cumbria member, Helen Wilson, took to writing poetry to help her focus and aid with her recovery from a Traumatic Brain Injury. Initially Helen wrote a series of 12 poems which explored various aspects of living with a brain injury and provided an insight into some of the challenges she had faced and the strategies she had used to help. Helen followed this by writing a further 12 poems exploring similar themes. Her story, and the 24 poems, were posted to the branch website at the time and are still available to view at the three links below:
Helen has developed this idea further and has now had the poems published as an anthology entitled “My Road to Recovery” which she describes as her journey, thoughts and feelings after a Traumatic Brain Injury.
Copies of Helen’s book will be available to purchase at the Day Centre when we open again in the New Year. Copies will also be available through the Secretary who can be contacted by e-mail, text and on the branch helpline. The cost of the book will be £5 with proceeds from the sale of the book going to Headway North Cumbria.
Headway North Cumbria would like to congratulate Helen on the publication of her book and thank her for her kindness and generosity in donating the proceeds to the branch.
